When children are different ages
The published rules on the Desfiladero website do not permit access for children under 8. Start with each child’s age on the day of the visit, without assuming a family booking admits everyone. If someone does not meet the conditions, reconsider before paying: a shared family activity may suit you better than separate visits. Do not rely on a childcare service to solve this.
Meeting the age requirement does not answer every question
Talk with the children about what the photographs show: a route between rock walls and walkways. Ask what interests them and what worries them. The minimum age alone does not tell you how each person will feel in that setting. If you are unsure, prepare specific questions for the team before deciding; do not promise that the route will be easy or that children can be carried.
A pushchair is not an alternative for the route
The published rules do not permit access with wheelchairs or pushchairs, and also restrict crutches and other accessories. If your plans depend on any of these items, discuss your specific needs before buying. Do not replace that conversation with an assumption about where to leave an item or how to continue without it.
Make your family enquiry useful
Write down the children’s ages, questions about accompanying adults and any needs that affect the visit. Ask which documents you should bring and read the response alongside the current booking conditions. This will help you decide based on your own situation, without treating an unanswered question as permission.
Once you have decided, prepare together
If the visit suits your family, share the booking instructions with the accompanying adults and explain to the children why they should follow staff instructions. Use the guide’s preparation checklist to organise what to bring. If it does not suit you, you can plan your day around the landscape and the town; check the conditions of any other activity separately.
